Begonia Plant Care

In this blog I want to share from my found knowledge on caring for Begonias, specifically cane type begonias in this blog. I know personally from my first plant being a begonia attracted to the gorgeous foliage I was immediately sadden because I overwatered it and did not give it the sufficient lighting - and so the journey began on learning how to improve my care for begonias and there has been such of a dramatic improvement from dead begonias to thriving full of life begonias.

Care Guide:

Lighting:

For lighting there are several ways to provide lighting to your begonias cane begonias are usually some that are easy with lighting so window light, supplemental light is great for those with busy life’s or enjoy a bit more ease to their plant care routine and can be found affordable or through trades.

Watering: For watering I like to place the begonias as shown below in a container filled with 1/4 of water sometimes with fertilizer or feed to allow the plants to take up the water from the roots of the plant the plant knows how much water it needs and will take up as much as it needs any left over water should be removed.

Fertilizing: I like to use a 20-20-20 fertilizer a small scoop goes a long way and I then don’t have to worry about over feeding I believe this is the best I have come to for cost and feeding them at ease for multiple species of plants I place a small scoop in a 1 gallon jug of water and then water from the roots up.

Propagation:

To take a prop of the plant cutting at the stem of the plant and allowing to callous for 3mins then placed in water or root stimulator in preferred substrate are a way to keep your plant going and sharing with friends.

Tips:

you can spray down the begonias with water if placed outdoors but a circulation of air needs to be around for the water not to damage the foliage

humidity is not a necessity with cane type begonias making them ideal for beginner begonias enthusiasts ’
